The above referenced article summarizes the research done at Tufts University that shows 
that in mice a high glycemic index diet causes damage to the eye's retina. The type of 
damage was typical of Age Related Macular Degeneration that occurs in older humans and
is associated with vision loss. Mice fed a lower glycemic diet typical of a diet high
in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains developed less retinal damage.
