If a recipe calls for an ingredient not available where you normally shop, you can try this list of sources for uncommon foods and kitchen tools.



Sprouts and spinach salad:
In crumb:
1 tablespoon whole wheat flour
  or 1 half slice bread, dried
1 half tablespoon non roasted sunflower seed butter
  or 1 half tablespoon any non roasted nut or seed butter
  or 1 teaspoon canola oil
1/2 pinch salt
1 teaspoon water

The other ingredients:
1 ounce tomato
  or 1 ounce apple
1 third cup mung bean sprouts, about 1 eighth inch long, about 1 ounce 
 (takes 3 days at ideal conditions)
  or 1 third cup alfalfa sprouts, about 1 eighth inch long, about 1 ounce 
   (takes 3.5 days)
  or 1 third cup wheat sprouts, 1 quarter inch long
1 ounce raw acorn squash
  or 1 ounce mushrooms, about 1 third cup chopped into 1 quarter inch pieces
1 teaspoon spinach powder
2 teaspoons canola oil
1 teaspoon sugar (use 2 teaspoons if using alfalfa sprouts)
2 pinches salt 
Into a small microwaveable bowl put:
1 tablespoon whole wheat flour, 1 half tablespoon sunflower seed butter, 1/2 pinch salt, and 1 teaspoon water.

Heat until firm, 1 minute 10 seconds (1 minute 30 seconds if doubling recipe) in a 1000 watt microwave oven, heat 2 minutes if using a 600 watt oven.

Process the grain biscuit into a coarse crumb or mash with a spoon.

If using wild mushroom, cut into 1 quarter inch pieces, put into a mug with 1 eighth cup water, heat to boil in microwave oven (1 minute in a 1000 watt oven), strain away water and discard water.

Cut the tomato and squash (or mushrooms) into 1 quarter inch pieces.

Thoroughly rinse and drain the sprouts.

Combine the sprouts, tomato, squash (or mushrooms), grain crumbs, 1 teaspoon spinach powder, 2 teaspoons oil, 1 teaspoon sugar, and 2 pinches salt and toss.

Makes a small meal by itself. A nice alternative to a tomato and peanut butter sandwich. Satisfying because of the oil, sugar, and salt; a little tang from the tomato; moderate spinach flavor; and chewiness from the squash and sprouted grain.
