Astronomical Theory Offers New Explanation For Ice Age
By Jeffery Kahn, JBKahn@LBL.gov, July 11, 1997
The orbital plane of earth's orbit changes through a cycle of 100,000 years. When the plane becomes titled relative the plane of the solar system, increased amounts of dust and debris enter the atmosphere from space and affect the earth's climate. The timing of the orbital tilt matches the timing of ice ages that have occurred roughly every 100,000 years.
